What is a tear duct surgery?
Tear duct surgery, also known as dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR), is a medical procedure performed to treat obstructed tear ducts. The tear ducts are responsible for draining tears from the eyes into the nose. When these ducts become blocked, it can lead to excessive tearing, eye infections, and other eye-related issues. The tear duct system consists of the lacrimal glands, which produce tears, and the tear ducts, which carry the tears to the nose. 3. Dacryocystorhinostomy with stent placement: A small tube (stent) is placed in the new passage to keep it open while it heals.
After surgery, patients may experience some discomfort and swelling, which can be managed with pain medication and cold compresses. Recovery time varies depending on the type of surgery and the individual’s healing process, but most patients can return to normal activities within a few weeks.
