How to Hide Recent Files in Windows 10
In today’s digital age, privacy is a top priority for many users. Whether you’re trying to keep your personal documents hidden from prying eyes or simply want to declutter your file explorer, hiding recent files in Windows 10 is a useful feature. This article will guide you through the steps to hide recent files, ensuring that your privacy is protected and your file explorer remains organized.
Step 1: Open File Explorer
To begin, open File Explorer by clicking on the folder icon on your taskbar or by pressing the Windows key + E.
Step 2: Access File Explorer Options
Once File Explorer is open, click on the three dots in the upper-right corner to access the menu. From the dropdown menu, select “Options.”
Step 3: Go to the View Tab
In the File Explorer Options window, click on the “View” tab at the top.
Step 4: Uncheck “Show Recently Used Files in Quick Access and Folders”
Under the “Files and Folders” section, you will find the option “Show recently used files in Quick Access and Folders.” Uncheck this box to hide recent files from appearing in Quick Access and Folders.
Step 5: Hide Recently Opened Files in File Explorer
If you want to completely hide recently opened files from File Explorer, you can uncheck the box next to “Show recently opened files in File Explorer.” This will remove the “Recent” section from the left-hand navigation pane.
Step 6: Hide Recent Files from Jump Lists
To prevent recent files from appearing in the Jump Lists of your apps, uncheck the box next to “Store and display recently used files in the Start menu and taskbar.”
Step 7: Apply and Save Changes
After making the desired changes, click “Apply” and then “OK” to save your settings.
Now, your recent files will be hidden in Windows 10, providing you with increased privacy and a cleaner file explorer interface. Remember that these changes can be reversed at any time by repeating the steps above and checking the boxes you unchecked.
